Poland’s commonest owl, largely sedentary and present in forests of all types, and even city parks. Most often nests in holes in old trees. Lack of appropriate natural nest-sites leads birds to take over old nests of birds of prey, or else to choose attics, or nestboxes of appropriately large size. An opportunistic feeder, hunting for whatever is most readily available. Rodents of various species nevertheless form bulk of diet.
