Moss family (Plagiomniaceae)

 

Moss forming loose green (later dark-green) cushions/carpets. Stems green prostrate to 5 cm in length. Leaves in upper part of stem loosely arranged, ovate,with sharp and narrow apex, singly toothed. Dioecious moss. Setae bi-coloured, red at bottom, yellow at top. Capsule elongate-ovate, yellow green, conical-cylindrical with long beak. Species of moderately fertile or fertile forests of differing levels of humidity. Grows in mixed/coniferous forest, open oak woodland, oak-lime-hornbeam, riparian and alder forests.
