The reserve is a home to bisons, Polish primitive horses of the tarpan type, moose, red deer, roe deer, wild boars, żubroń (hybrid of domestic cattle and the bison), wolves, and wildcats. The Demonstration Bison Reserve is the most visited tourist attraction in Białowieża National Park, and is also used for classes on environmental issues for school youth visiting Białowieża.
The reserve can be visited all year round.
The Demonstration Bison Reserve is open:
- during the tourist season (from April 15 to October 15) every day from 9:00 to 17:00;
- out of season, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8:00 to 16:00
