Familiar though rather uncommon and secretive migrant. Lives in crowns of trees and hardly on ground at all. Nest in tree fork, takes form of basket interwoven with plant fibres and grass stems. Almost solely constructed by females, which often incorporate strips of paper and material, string, etc. In fact one of the most accomplished avian nest-builders. Just one brood a year. Eats insects and their larvae, as well as fruit. All other orioles remain in the Tropics, while this one migrates into Europe, though stays rather short, before return migration to Africa for winter.
