Accommodation
The Białowieża Forest region is characterised by well-preserved wooden architecture, particularly in rural areas. Log houses with their sides facing a road form a picturesque landscape of Podlasie villages. They are covered with exquisite decorations, and have decorative shutters, corners and wind girders. These ornaments are not found in other parts of Poland, and recall decorations used in Russian rural constructions. Often lodgings are located at restored traditional farms or are constructed in a similar way. On their walls there are portraits of Tsar family and icons, which in the past were to protect the property against theft and fire.
