Moss family (Hylocomiaceae)

 

Moss forming extensive yellow-green and glistening carpets. Stems red, up to 15 cm long, erect, regularly pinnately branched. Side branches up to 1,5 cm long, arranged in two rows in a single plane. Stem leaves broad ovate, with rounded or blunt tips. Rarely-appearing capsules brown, elongate-ovate, on red setae c. 2.5 cm long. A moss of coniferous and mixed/coniferous forests, growing in all types thereof. Also present in marshy forests, especially alder bog-forest type. Under Partial Protection.
