Body length: 13-15 cm
Body mass: ok. 30 g
Appearance:
Male: green back, yellow-green front, grey cheeks, grey-yellow wings.
Female: brown back, greyish belly and breast, grey-yellow wings and tail.
Juvenile: resembles female, but very barred.

Lives in forests, parks and gardens, and is less abundant in larger blocks of forest in NE Poland. Birds conceal nests in thicker foliage of conifers, including in planted hedges, though limes and hawthorns also selected. Nesting largely a matter for the female. Lives on seeds, buds and fruits, and is a very willing visitor to feeders, especially for sunflower seeds. A resident species.
