A widespread and common breeding bird of Poland, inhabiting forests of all kinds, but also farmland copses and parks. Nest may be on ground, beneath a fallen tree-trunk, in tree-holes and nestboxes, but also among rocks and even on verandas. While nest exterior is of leaves, interiors are lined with moss, fibres and hair. Two broods a year are possible. Diet of insects and small fruits. Birds sing even in late evening, when other species have fallen silent. Winters around the Mediterranean, though a few remain in Poland.
